worth the Wii?
So I waited overnight at FutureShop for the Wii.
If you'ved ever doubted my geekiness before, this--THIS--has to do it. My justification for doing something this extreme? For the experience, which I'll never get from some celebrity or film festival-related event, and come on--it's the Wii. (Nod with me)
There were about five of us crazies in front of FutureShop since 9pm, but because I like to keep my bum warm, I stayed in the car, whereas Albert (the guy who the Wii was actually for) toggled back and forth from the car and back into the line. A Best Buy was about 5 minutes from where we were, and to keep us entertained, Albert and I walked there to check things out at around 3am. Wow, you should've seen the line. It was like seeing 40 homeless persons grouped in a very organized fashion just outside of Best Buy. There were people in sleeping bags, and some people in Leather Recliner Chairs WITH the Ottoman included. I felt better about myself after seeing them.
I think I passed out around 5:30 a.m.. (weak, I know I know) and when I woke up around 7, the line grew to about 50 people. The demographic makeup of the line was kind of embarrassing to notice: The front was mostly made up of people my age or older, and as you went farther down the line, the younger they got. This is probably because the younger kids needed to bring their parents along or something for a ride and a credit card. Most of the younger kids couldn't get a Wii (or the entire package--both controllers, zelda, etc.) of their own because FutureShop only had so many, but we got it! ^^ We were second in line, and we waited all friggin night long. We had BETTER have gotten it. So most of us 20-something year olds pranced our way out with our shiny new Wiis, raccoon-eyed and smiling like idiots, while the younger kids looked on with Bambi eyes, drool slipping from the corner of their mouths, and their hands tugging at their parents' clothes, as if asking: Why couldn't I get one, Mommy? Albert and I returned to his residence, where we played each of the 3 games he'd purchased (Rabid Rabbids, I think, Zelda, and the Sports one that comes included with every Wii) for about... I think an hour. Then we passed out. It's so sad. We wait for the Wii for more than 13 hours, so that we can play for one.
Was it worth it? Judging from my messed-up sleeping habits and Albert being bed-ridden from illness, maybe not..........
